Palike draws flak on denial of dengue deaths

Bangalore, July 29, DHNS:

The Opposition in the BBMP accused the Palike of downplaying the dengue related deaths in the City.

Leader of the Opposition, Nagaraju said at least five people have died and 400 have been admitted to various hospitals with the fever. He sought to know whether equipment to check blood platelet count were available in any of the hospitals run by the Palike.

Corporators alleged that fogging and garbage removal were not being done regularly.
Commissioner Siddaiah said, Prema, who reportedly succumbed to dengue, had a platelet count of 1.47 lakh and here death was not due to the fever but on account of some other disease. He said many hospitals, based on symptoms, register dengue cases even though they do not have the facility to test for the virus. He said 607 people so far have been tested positive for dengue.
