Outraged morality

Activists belonging to the Mysore city and district units of the NSUI have mustered courage to take the lead in unmasking its three national-level observers, who allegedly demanded sexual favours and money from a local worker in return for a plum post within the organisation.

Outraged by the moral turpitude of the three leaders, Mysore city NSUI vice-president B Praveen said here on Saturday that the three NSUI leaders, whom he identified as Charles, Satish and Anbu, on Friday night sought sexual favours and even money while they were camping in a hotel here for the past few days.

The troika’s visit to Mysore primarily involved expanding the organisation’s membership base. An angry Praveen, who also issued a press release exposing the scandal, alleged that the three NSUI leaders demanded Rs 5 lakh from him in exchange for the organisational post of the Mysore city unit chief. “They also asked me to fetch women for them,” Praveen alleged.

The word that the three were up to no good spread like wildfire within the local unit. This was followed by high drama, as organisation supporters manhandled the three in front of local television news channels.

What enraged the NSUI workers further was that one of the three leaders continued to pester Praveen and a few others to have women brought over to their hotel rooms. This particular leader, some NSUI activists alleged, had already pocketed about Rs 20,000 after collecting Rs 5,000 each from four workers.

Though a police complaint was registered, NSUI sources disclosed to Deccan Herald that following a complaint to higher ups in the organisational hierarchy, a top leader reached Mysore to enquire into the allegations. The senior leader will meet local NSUI leaders Chetan, Praveen and the three accused office bearers before taking any decision on the modalities of punishment.
