Hi-tech bus terminal to be opened in Hassan

It will be most modern among tier-III cities

The hi-tech bus stand will one of the unique, the biggest and most modern bus stands among the tier-III cities in country. It has been constructed at a total cost of Rs 34 crore, said Divisional Controller Basavaraj here.

He told reporters on Monday that the contractor who has got the tender for the construction of the bus stand, will hand over the facility to the KSRTC in about 10 days. We have plans to start the services from new bus stand on Aug 15, he said adding that the division is awaiting a green signal from the Corporate office.

He said the bus stand has unique and most modern services. About 88 buses can be parked in the platforms at a time, while the bus stand has a parking area for 250 buses. It will have commercial annexe, a post office and hi-tech toilets.

He said road leading to the bus stand is yet to completed. There is a proposal to widen the road near the railway crossing to provide a broadway link to the new bus stand from the city. The existing city bus stand will also continue to operate.  It will be used for city services, the Divisional Controller said.

Target

Basavaraj said the KSRTC Hassan division has set a target of Rs 8.5 crore profit for the financial year 2010-11. Last year, the division netted Rs 7.30 crore profit. In the first quarter of 2010, the profit stands at Rs 1.95 crore.

Presently, the division has a fleet of 565 buses and 2,390 employees. Ten new buses will be added to the fleet for Kerala and other inter-state destinations, he said. The city services will also be strengthened in the coming days, he added.
