Sir,
Auto vs Volvo service.
Now that the Govt has succumbed to the demand of Auto Rickshaw unions and increased the tariff, the blow to the public can be softened. If the Govt allows a steep discount on its tariff on the Volvo bus service during non-peak hours, say from 11 am to 5 pm, this would encourage public to use the bus services, which will increase the revenue of the Govt. Transport Undertaking without increasing operational cost. Such a differentiated pricing, as is proved by airline services, would help growth in business and profits.

Indian homes hygiene practices fading away
A study conducted by scientists of the Leeds Metropolitan University says that kitchen floor of houses with pets will have almost 20 times higher bacterial population than those without (Reference: DH article-Houses with pets have filthiest kitchen floors. 'WHAT IS BUZZ', on Aug. 3). The implications of the findings are serious. In India generally animals are not allowed inside the houses and definitely not into kitchens. Even family members with foot-wares or those who do not wash their feet are not allowed into kitchen, but many such eco-friendly hygienic practices are gradually disappearing from Indian homes and are falling to recourse like chemical cleaning products.

Rave party of the talented managers
The students of a reputed management school, brought down their own reputation by attending a rave party. It is rather shocking that the future managers being developed by one of the prestigious management institute at Pune failed to manage and behave themselves in a befitting and exemplary manner as expected.
The institute’s failure to be more prudent in the selection of its scholars’ is going to cost them heavily in future. This one rave party is sufficient to tarnish the accumulated reputation of the institute for several years. (It reminds of an age old saying in Telugu “veyyi nomulu oka ranku tho samanam”, which means a thousand religious good deeds gets nullified by one bad deed. Though the majority of students of the institute may not be as bad, they become scapegoats dragged under pressure by a very few black sheep, where the institute’s laxness to monitor and weed out such bad elements periodically not only degraded its own reputation but put the future of the studious/scholastic at stake in a most competitive world.

Need for Supreme Court's initiative
Honorable Supreme court has taken focused interest in the alleged encounter killing of the notorious extortionist Sohrabuddin to the extent of asking the CBI to investigate the case. But, sadly in the case of cold blooded murder of Swami Lakshmananda of Kandhamal, Orissa, despite the tardy progress in the investigation in 3 years, the honourable Supreme Court has not bestowed its attention to unravel the people behind the ghastly killing. Whereas in the case of Sohrabuddin encounter killing powerful and influential public figures took up the case, in the case of Swami Lakshmanda Saraswati there is no pressure on the state government from any quarter. This has resulted in virtually no progress in the investigation in the case of Swami''s murder. It will be fair if the Supreme Court takes the initiative to identify and punish the murderers of the Swami.

Congress wealth games
Sir, This refers to ‘CWG profligacy exposed’ (DH, Aug 3). As though to match the ‘unparalleled loot’ in Bellary, the Congress has converted the forthcoming Commonwealth Games into ‘Congress wealth games’!
Its representatives, who have been planted into various key positions to ‘make money’ for the Congress party have acquitted themselves admirably. It is unfortunate that while making money, these politicians have lost track of the dates set for the Games to begin. It is disgusting that our politicians have ruined our country by introducing corruption in every field. Today, the very definition/concept of corruption has changed: If an individual takes money and does the ‘job’ he is honest; but if he takes money and does not do your ‘work’ he is corrupt!

One more scam
After the recent 3G scam, it is now the scam of the commonwealth Games. It is unfortunate that the sports field is also not free from scams. Already, the nation is loaded with many scams. It is not in a position to digest any more. When will our nation be free from scams?

Corrupt wealth games
With every approaching day the skeletons are tumbling out of the CWG organising committee cupboard at a faster rate than one can keep count of.
An opportunity to showcase the country’s progress and capability has been turned into money making racket running into crores of rupees. The display of several ingenious means of skimming the cream is far ahead of the display that India will eventually put up. As citizens we have no option but to hang our heads in shame.
It is better to rename the event as Corrupt Wealth Games.

Irresponsible media
Of late our TV news channels have lost all sense of proportion and responsibility in highlighting trivial issues into breaking news throughout the day and night. This is with reference to the shabby act of ‘wife beating’ indulged by a deranged Rahul Mahajan. This guy is a drug addict and a non-entity with a sleazy background and yet the TV channels went hammer and tongs to describe it in detail as if this was the event of the century involving a reputable, decent citizen. Just because he achieved dubious fame on a reality show is no reason to give so much importance to such a disgusting episode. As a matter of fact this item got blanket saturation coverage which is totally undeserving and sheer wastage of precious TV time. And to add further sauce his previous wife was roped in to give her opinion. This is not the only instance when such coverage was given to this kind of insignificant news. It is time for the news channels and press to use more discretion in their selection of what constitutes ‘breaking news’

The Abdullahs's have failed
If one happens to be handsome, young and with oratory skill, it does not guarantee that he would be a successful political leader or administrator. Omar Abdullah the youngest CM in India, very handsome with oratory skill is an example. With all these attributes he has miserably failed to control the volatile situation in Kashmir. Kashmir is burning. Several people have been killed in the last few days. Mobs are on the rampage! Stone pelting has become an organized profession for the teenagers. They are being paid for every stone pelted at the police by the separatists. These misguided youth have to be provided with employment opportunities.
Omar is confused on how to deal with the situation. He now talks of a political solution and wants Army to be withdrawn from Kashmir to placate the separatists. It appears he is now yielding to pro Pakistan and separatist elements under pressure.
If the violence in Kashmir continues then it deserves to be placed under President's rule.

Cameroon is not helping India, But helping himself
Finally the tough statements are coming from US, UK and all the countries who have become the victims of terror directly or indirectly. When the British PM was making a statement that Pakistan is exporting terror everywhere, he is not fighting Indian war or simply supporting us but waging his own war on terror. Now he is more worried about his threat as UK has also become the main Taliban target like US and other NATO forces who are present enemies of Taliban forces. Although the same fundamentalist forces were once supported and made to grow to this level by the same NATO forces for their political benefits.
All these years, the Indian genuine plea to all these nations was falling on deaf ears of these NATO forces. They were playing double game with both the countries by giving one statement in Delhi and contradictory one in Islamabad next day, as they wanted the enmity between our two countries to remain forever for their advantages. It is always true that a person understands or realizes the gravity of the situation or genuine problem better only when it happens to himself.
However, in the present grave situation of Pakistan which is in the firm grip of fundamentalist forces and capable of exporting terror to any part of the globe, India, also in its own interest, should continue its collateral support to the NATO forces as before. At this juncture, we should have our optimistic patience, as the NATO forces would soon be compelled to attack the Taliban support line in Pakistan if their war on terror in Afghanistan and across the globe has to be successful.
