JOIN US'Give JnNURM touch to developmental works'
He was addressing a meeting convened here to monitor progress of works being done out ofRs 100 crore special grant released by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and also of JnNURM works here. The minister pointed out that JnNURM has a special significance.
Only the works being undertaken by KSRTC reflect the importance of JnNurm but it is absent in other works. The drinking water works are kicking controversies rather than progress. This should not happen. Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, who is also special officer of JnNURM works, has to take special interest in those works.
Sureshkumar said the MCC, at the time of executing drinking water schemes should not only take the areas that come under its jurisdiction but also areas developed by Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and private realtors. This would help in solving drinking water problems in the coming days.
Officers of MCC informed the meeting that a project has been evolved at ` 108.81 crore to bring water from Kabini. Already, tenders are finalised for works worth Rs 81.7 crore and the works are in progress. `24.49 crore in first stage and ` 43.86 crore in second stage had been released. Replying to a suggestion from MLA Tanveer Sait that water should be distributed to villages that are situated along with the pipeline drawn from River Kapila, MCC Commissioner K S Raykar said already this has been incorporated in the project.
Compensation
Officers of Vani Vilasa Water Works said they are giving Rs 2 lakh compensation for farmers so that they do not come in the way of putting pipeline. The works would start soon after giving full compensation to farmers affected.
When Mayor Sandesh Swamy objected that officials were not giving information about the progress of jnNURM works to elected representatives, the minister directed the officials to bring to the notice of people’s representatives on regular basis. Henceforth, the review meeting would be held once in three months.
KSRTC Divisional Controller Srinivas said the corporation has been running 150 buses purchased under jnNURM scheme and providing quality service to commuters without charging any additional money. There has been positive response from the citizens about new buses. In fact, KSRTC was given Rs 108 crore under jnNURM scheme with which works on eight bus terminals had been taken up. The City Bus Terminal and R S Naidu Bus Terminal are ready. Other bus terminals would be completed by October this year. Steps are taken to build 100 new bus shelters in the city. Sureshkumar suggested Srinivas to build a small shop and toilet at all the proposal bus shelters.
Outer ring road
MUDA Commissioner P C Jayanna said the authority has taken up construction of outer ring road at a cost of Rs 219 crore and other developmental works. Besides, plan of action has been drawn to complete 9 km stretch between Bannur Road and Nanjangud Road.
Raykar said as many as 138 works had been taken up out of Rs 100 crore special grant released by the CM of which 113 works are completed.
The minister directed the MCC to prepare special plan to build assets for the next ` 100 crore special grant to be released by the State Government soon.
