RBI to issue new Rs 10 notes in Mahatma Gandhi series

The Reserve Bank will soon issue new Rs 10 banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi series with an inset letter, 'S', in both the numbering panels as an additional security feature.
The notes would bear the signature of RBI Governor D Subbarao, the RBI said in a statement here on Tuesday. Except for the change in the inset letter, the design of these notes is similar in all respects to the banknotes issued earlier on April 27, 2006, in the Mahatma Gandhi Series, the RBI said. All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 10 issued by the bank in the past would continue to be legal tender, it added.
