It’s not just studies that matter for the BMS College of Engineering students. The members of its social club have been doing some charity work as well
The social club of BMS College of Engineering is one of the most dynamic clubs, which has been carrying out some appreciable works over the last few years.
The team members have been helping the victims of natural calamities not only by raising funds but also by ensuring its meaningful utilisation. The task force has connections with some NGOs and performs other social activities too.
Anvesh Rai, Saigiri and Prashanth are the student co-ordinators and the team consists of more than twenty members. “Many volunteers and other people join the club when there is a need. There is a lot response for any social cause,” says Anvesh.
The social club was started two years ago to help the victims of flood in Bihar. A group of enthusiasts took up the initiative and collected cash, clothes and non-perishable food stuff and handed it over to the sufferers. “When the horrible flood affected the lives of thousands of people in Bihar, we decided to do something.
We dedicated three complete days that time raising funds and collected more than a lakh rupees,” recalls Prashanth. Last year, when the heavy floods hit Northern Karnataka, the BMS bulls didn’t sit quiet.
“Our juniors, who were inspired by our work before, came out whole-heartedly to take up the cause and collected Rs 80 thousand as relief money,” says Anvesh Rai. The activities of the club also include planting of saplings, cleaning-up the college premises, campaigning for greenery and so on.
