Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Bangarappa said owning moral responsibility for the deaths of beggars and also for the miserable state of affairs at the Rehabilitation Centre, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa should tender his resignation.

The cause of beggars’ deaths should be investigated. The truth can be revealed only if post-mortem is conducted, he said and added that the inmates who had escaped from the centre should be traced and rehabilitated at the earliest.

The former chief minister charged Yeddyurappa with trying to hoodwink people by suspending a few officials and by divesting the portfolio of the Social Welfare minister. If the chief minister was genuinely concerned he should tender his resignation, Bangarappa said.

The Congress leader rubbished the allegations made by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj in Bellary on Friday, that the Congress had tried to woo the Reddy brothers of Bellary to its fold.

“Holding a responsible position in the Parliament, she cannot make such baseless allegations. Let her disclose the names of the persons who tried to contact the Reddy brothers,” he said.

On illegal mining

Speaking on illegal mining, Bangarappa charged that the Government, instead of taking steps to curb illegal mining in the State, had banned export of iron ore.

He also urged the President not to give assent to the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill - 2010 stating that it was anti-people.
