Abdullah’s party activist, two others killed in J&K
Unidentified militants shot dead a woman, her teenaged daughter and a National Conference (NC) activist in south Kashmir on Sunday night.
Militants also targeted the residence of an MLA in north Kashmir.
Giving details, Superintendent of Police Kulgam Keshu Ram said around four militants reached Nandimarg village in south Kashmir. Equipped with automatic weapons, they forcibly entered into the house of villager Mohammad Hussain. “The militants were asking for Siraj-u-Din, Hussain’s brother in law, who used to come to the house frequently. Since he was not present there, they fired indiscriminately at the family members killing the woman and her daughter,” SP said.
The deceased were identified as 44-year-old Shakeela and her 19-year-old daughter Zareena. The militants escaped under the cover of darkness. Several hours after the double murder, police and security forces reached the spot.
In another incident, militants killed Ghulam Nabi Wani at Chakoora Pulwama. Working in the Social Welfare Department, he was reportedly a National Conference activist. He was fired upon when he was coming out of a mosque after offering prayers.
Haji Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Sopore MLA, survived another bid on his life when militants opened fire at his residence in the Dangerpora area.
“Policemen deployed there retaliated. No loss of life has been reported in this incident,” a police spokesman.
Four days ago, a special police official was killed and two policemen injured when militants carried out a similar attack on his residence.
