Vikas bags bronze, paddlers struggle at Youth Olympics

The Indian was declared the winner when the referee disqualified Echeverria in round 3 of the bronze medal play-off. It is India’s first medal in boxing and has pushed the country's overall medals tally to seven.

India is assured another medal in boxing as Shiva Thapa will fight his gold medal match against Cuban Robeisy Eloy Ramirez Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Indian paddlers disappointed again on day 10 of the Youth Olympics. The table tennis team comprising Avik Das and Mallika Bhandarkar lost two of the three first stage mixed team Group E matches against China and Thailand.

They were routed 0-3 by powerhouse China while the duo lost 1-2 to Thailand. The solitary win came against neighbours Sri Lanks with a 3-0 scoreline. India have so far won seven medals, five silver and two bronze.

Indian wrestlers Pooja Dhanda (60 kg) and Satyawart Kadian (100 kg) won silver and bronze medals. H.S. Prannoy won silver in boys badminton singles.

Tennis sensation Yuki Bhambri won silver in the boy's singles while discus thrower Arjun also clinched a silver. Athlete Durgesh Kumar bagged silver in the 400m hurdles.
