The season of prequels is here. First it was ‘Star Trek’ showing us how it all began and now the makers of ‘X-Men’ are doing exactly the same.

This film begins in 1845 and traces the adventures of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and his half-mutant brother Victor (Liev Schreiber). The two fought together in the US Civil War, World War I, II and Vietnam but they gradually parted ways when Wolverine quits Team-X after their brutal mission in Africa.

However, six years later, Wolverine who has settled with his girlfriend and is working as a lumberjack in the Canadian Rockies, is pulled back in to the game when his former boss Colonel William Stryker (Danny Huston) comes to him with an offer. Wolverine refuses, but when Victor allegedly murders his girlfriend he takes up the offer to have his revenge, only to learn later that there was a much bigger plot.

The film is packed with non-stop action scenes, has hi-fi special effects and terrific stunts besides wonderful cinematography and locales. The final action stunts on top of a nuclear power plant which involve a perfect work of stage settings and special effects will take your breath away.

Jackman and Schreiber also put up a good performance with their convincing fight scenes.

Even though the strong political messages that were an integral part of the previous three ‘X-Men’ films are missing, ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ still has the sharp ‘metals’ to get the job done.
