Writer slaps notice on Mohanlal

Thiruvananthapuram, August 26, DHNS:

After a series of verbal exchanges, renowned Malayalam writer Sukumar Azhikode and superstar Mohanlal have got down to some real action.

Azhikode has slapped a legal notice on the actor demanding an apology for saying that he suffers from “hallucinations”.

“I have sent a notice through my counsel asking Mohanlal to tender an apology in a week’s time for his statement that I suffer from hallucinations. Further steps would be taken up after that,” Azhikode, who is also a popular orator, told the reporters.

Azhikode got on the wrong side of the actors body AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) after he came out in support of rebellious actor Thilakan who had criticised the superstars’  stranglehold on Malayalam cinema. The ensuing war of words had resulted in AMMA sending a legal notice to him for allegedly showing the actors in poor light.
Azhikode’s notice is believed to be a retaliation to that gesture.

“Mohanlal’s statements made through TV channels have hurt my reputation,” Azhikode, 84, and a bachelor, said. The writer had criticised Mohanlal for promoting alcohol brands and suggested that superstars should take up roles matching their age.

Even as Mammootty politely commented, Mohanlal’s responses kept the controversy alive. Mohanlal hit back at Azhikode saying that it was for him to decide whether he should act or not and that he saw the writer’s statements as an old man’s jokes.

Azhikode is a renowned critic and writer. His book “Tathvamasi” is an authoritative book on Indian philosophy, vedas and upanishads.
