SAI-Madikeri, Jhansi to clash in finals today
Sports Authority of India, Madikeri playing a confident and well planned game registered a exciting 2-1 win over DYSS, Mysore in the seminar-final.
While in the other match, Jhansi scored a 3-1 win over STC, Chennai to enter the final on the penultimate day of the All-India Invitation Hockey Tournament for women conducted by the National Sports Day Celebration Committee at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium on Saturday.
In the first semi-final, Jhansi XI spearheaded by Prakash Choudry scored the first goal through a penalty corner conversion in the 3rd minute of the game. STC, Chennai equalised through a field goal by M Shangabarathi in the 30th minute.
Arti Tomori increased the lead for Jhansi through a field goal in the 40th minute. Prakash Choudry scored her second goal of the match in the 50th minute. Jhansi won by a 3-1 margin.
In the second semi-final, SAI, Madikeri combined well by playing with good understanding and centre-forward K C Chaitra scored a brace in the 22nd and 25th minute to take her team to a early 2-0 lead. Good saves by SAI goal keeper K N Dechamma helped her team. B S Harinakshi scored the only goal for DYSS in the 34th minute through a penalty corner conversion.
DYSS, Mysore secured 13 penalty corner, but could convert only one which proved costly.
The results: Semi-finals; 1) Jhansi bt STC Chennai 3-1. 2) STC-Chennai bt DYSS, Mysore.
