Vector control stressed for checking epidemics
Documentary on dengue and chikungunya screened
Vector control assumes priority in checking the spread of dengue, chikungunya and malaria. A clean environment would ward off the onset of these diseases, said malaria surveillance Officer Dr Babu Reddy.
Prevention and cure
Speaking at a seminar on dengue and chikungunya here on Tuesday, he said no vaccinations are available to check these diseases and hence control of vector - mosquitoes - is the only way to curb the spread.
“All efforts should be made to maintain a clean environment. No scope should be given for mosquito breeding. A disease-free society could be created by ensuring sanitation,” he noted.
Check up
Dr Reddy said people should approach doctors once they experience initial symptoms - flu, body pain, headache and fatigue. Patients can recover early if treated at initial stages.
District Health Education Officer S Harish gave information on the spread of diseases by mosquitoes and the diet for patients.
A documentary on dengue and chikungunya was screened on the occasion. District Information Department and K V T Polytechnic had jointly organised the programme.
