Sportspersons will be given incentives: Krishnaiah Setty

He was speaking as president of the inaugural programme of the taluk level sports meet conducted jointly by the Zilla Panchayat and Public Education Department at the Government Pre-university College Sports Ground here on Tuesday.

Twenty-five athletes winning first prizes will be awarded Rs 2,000 each, 25 winners of second prizes will be awarded Rs 1,000 each and third prize-winners will be awarded Rs 750 each as incentive, Setty said.

The sportsperson with the best overall performance will be given the Best Athlete Award, and also Rs 10,000. The second best performer will be given Rs 5,000 and the person in the third place will get Rs 2,500, he added.

Setty also said physical trainers striving to bring out the best in the athletes will be awarded Rs 2,500 as incentive.

All work no play

It is important for students to give as much attention to sports and games as to studies. This will help them build a bright future, he advised, and added that athletes should take victory and defeat in their stride and learn to accept both. Setty also reminded that recognising students with a penchant for sports and grooming them is everybody’s responsibility.

Physical trainer Wajid, Timmarayappa, Lakshmikantayya were felicitated during the occasion.

Block Education Officer Venkatarama Reddy, Town Municipal Council president Gulab Jaan, former presidents Susheelamma and Neela Chandra, Government Employees’ Association president M Jayaram, Primary School Teachers’ Association president M Muninarayana, District Physical Trainers’ Association president Srinivas Gowda, Physical Education Inspector M Ramachandra Rao, Physical Trainers’ Association taluk unit president P V Devaraj, leaders Pradeep Reddy and Anita, BJP taluk president Narayana Gowda, Congress leader Dinesh Gowda and Srihari were present.
