State govt doubles honorarium

Last Updated 03 September 2010, 17:31 IST

Mayors will now be getting a monthly honorarium of Rs 8,000. Similarly, deputy mayors will get Rs 5,000 and members Rs 3,000 per month, said Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar.

Unlike legislators and MPs, representatives of urban local bodies do not get salaries and perks. The representatives are provided honorarium which differ, depending on the tier of urban local body. A hike in honorarium has been a long-standing demand of the members.

However, BBMP councillors will not benefit from the Government’s move. Reason: BBMP has been excluded from the Urban Development portfolio being handled by Suresh Kumar, as Chief Minister Yeddyurappa has retained the Bangalore Development portfolio.

Decisions taken by the Urban Development Department will not apply to BBMP, unless specified by the Chief Minister, sources said.

Presidents of City Municipal Councils, earning more than Rs five crore revenue, will now get Rs 6,000 per month, while the vice-presidents will get Rs 4,000 per month and the members will get Rs 2,000 per month.

Presidents of the City Municipal Councils, with revenue less than Rs five crore, will get Rs 4,000 per month, vice-presidents Rs 2,000 and members Rs 1,000, Suresh Kumar said.

In case of Town Municipal Councils, presidents will get Rs 2,400 per month, vice-president Rs 1,200 and members Rs 600 per month. In case of town panchayats, presidents, vice-presidents and members will get Rs 1,600 per month, Rs 800 per month and Rs 400 per month, respectively.
