State will award PU teachers from next year

Govt firm on implementing RTE Act in letter and spirit, says Minister

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri has said teachers from Pre-University (PU) colleges will also be honoured with the State awards from next year.

He said: “The PU college teachers will also get the State awards on the lines of the recognition given to the school teachers.”

Kageri said the government which has considered education as a priority sector, is ready to address all the issues of teachers and government schools.

He said the government is committed to provide quality education to children.  The minister said health clubs will be constituted in high schools in order to sensitise students on physical and mental health.

Disparity in salary

On various plans of the Department the minister said: “We will address the disparity in teachers’ payment and initiate corrective measures to ensure that there is no delay in release of salaries.” Kageri further said there will be changes in transfer policy. The government has begun procedure to regularise the services of job-oriented courses (JOC) teachers, he added.

Reiterating that the Government is firm on implementing the Right to Education Act (RTE) in its full spirit, he said the Education Department has been compiling suggestions and recommendations made by educationists, teachers and parents on the issue. “We would come out with the modalities to implement the legislation shortly,” he said.

The Government has brought out quality textbooks at nominal rates, he said.
However, he admitted that there was delay in supply of textbooks to schools and said the department has worked out a mechanism to ensure availability of the textbooks on time from next year. The Best Teacher Award was conferred on 30 teachers from various districts and 10 other teachers were also presented with the special awards at the event held at NIE Diamond Jubilee hall.
