No land acquisition for MSEZ phase II, says Palemar

Mangalore, September 5, DHNS:

District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar has said that land acquisition for II Phase of Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) will not be allowed at any cost in Dakshina Kannada district which has large area of cultivable and fertile land in several regions.

Addressing reporters after welcoming the Queen’s Baton at Gundya on Sunday, he said that already a total of 1,800 acres has been acquired for MSEZ but not even an inch of land will be acquired in the region in future.

“Lot of industries have already been set up in the region. We have realised that there is no use of such industries to our people. The compensation and job surety provided by these companies are not of any help to our people,” he said. With regard to Gundya Hydro Power project, he said that the decision is left up to the Centre.
