‘Inculcate quality of rational thinking in students’
Kodagu celebrates Teachers’ Day; 6 get Best Teacher Awards
Teachers should inculcate the quality of rational thinking in students and thereby the education should pave way for the overall development of children, said Sullia Nehru Memorial College Economics Lecturer Prabhakara Shishila.
Addressing at a Teachers Day celebration and award distribution programme organised by the Zilla Panchayat, Department of Public Instructions and Karnataka State Teachers Welfare Fund at St Joseph School here on Sunday, Shishila said that teachers should forget all personal grievances while teaching students. “Personal problems should not affect the education of children. Teachers should think in a broad minded manner and treat students equally. Moreover, teachers should have the capacity to solve any situations, he said. The society will identify and honour teachers only if they could shape children into obedient citizens,” he added.
“One cannot love the culture if he or she does not love the history of the region. A civilised society cannot be formed if people are unaware of the local history and culture. Hence, we should give more emphasis on local history,” Shishila said.
He said that the nation needs more role models like Mahatma Gandhi and Sarvepalli Radhakrishna, who can transform the society. “Cricket players, tennis champions or film stars are not at all role models for us. Those who deposit enormous wealth in Swiss banks cannot be considered as role models,” he said.
The society, which respects film stars, should also identify award winning teachers in the same degree, he added.
Shishila called upon teachers to write their experiences after they retire from the service. “Fresh graduates, who enter the teaching profession, will be benefited if experienced teachers share their experience with the newcomers,” he added.
