Hassan yearns for better sports infrastructure

Hassan: Sept 5, DHNS:

Finally, there seems to be a sunny day for sports, in the town. With the rain playing spoil sport to the Hassan Cricket Associations plans to host host a KPL T-20 cricket tournament on the weekends, the Association is firm on improving the cricket infrastructure here.

Though, not having hosted any big matches, the pitch in the cricket grounds near the Government science college has impressed the state players.

The women’s cricket played early this week has helped generate goodwill for the grounds. The KPL teams which arrived here on Friday appreciated the pitch and said improving infrastructure would help the ground being listed under the probable venues in the KPL matches. Deputy Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh has also supported the Association to create a good pitch in the town.

Though, many players from the district, including Javagal Srinath have earned good position in the state and National cricket, there was no good infrastructure for the cricket so far.
While, the sports lovers also have a good news.

The department of district youth and sports services which pushed for the construction of indoor stadium in the town is completing its task soon.

The special interest taken by the district administration to improve the sports infrastructure in the district has also contributed towards speedy completion of the project.

The indoor stadium would host many games and is likely to develop as a sports village supporting many indoor games including swimming, sources said.

Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Goolihatti Shekar who had visited the town
inspected the work on the indoor stadium recently, told reporters that his department would take Hassan stadium as a model to construct similar stadiums in all the districts in state.

The Hassan district which was only recognised as political hotbed could soon be identified with sports as the town, only if the politicians and officials have the political will to create better facilities for sportspersons.
