No info on RTE workshops, claim private schools
Communication gap between the government officials and private school managements was evident as city schools claimed that have not received any intimation about workshops on Right to Education workshops scheduled for Bangalore Urban district on Monday.
Ever since the State Government has uploaded RTE draft rules online, several private school managements have expressed their concerns about certain provisions of the legislation.
The State Government has also mentioned that it would conduct a series of workshops to debate the controversial clauses, before finalising the rules. However, schools of Bangalore Urban district complained that they have not received any information on the the workshop.
On Sunday, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) website had a list of district level RTE workshop dates. The website did not contain any information other than venue or time of the workshop.
Opportunity
"The workshop is an opportunity for us to air our views about the workshop. None of the members of private schools have received any intimation from the officials. The authorities should have sent a circular to the school managements," said Mansoor Ali, secretary of Management of Independent CBSE Schools, Karnataka.
However, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan authorities, when contacted, refuted the allegations. "We have already conducted one session on Saturday. The schools have also been informed about the event," said a senior official of SSA.
Department of Public Instruction extended deadline to submit objections and opinions on RTE Act till September 30, recently. The authorities had uploaded the Kannada and English versions of the draft rules on the official website.
Meanwhile, a programme officer told that only selected members of a specific area would attend the programme. "Inviting the schools depends on the discretion of the authorities of District Institute of Education and Training.
Close to 60 select representatives are expected to attend the event at DIET office at Rajarajehwari Nagar," the official said.
