Opposition played 'dirty politics' over hostage crisis

Patna, Sep 6 (PTI) :

Accusing the opposition RJD, LJP and Congress of playing 'dirty politics' over the hostage crisis in Bihar, JD(U) president Sharad Yadav today said the release of the abducted policemen had brought great satisfaction and happiness.

"It is a matter of great satisfaction and happiness," Yadav said reacting to the release of the three policemen held hostage by the Maoists in Lakhisarai district for eight days.

He criticised the role of Opposition during the crisis alleging it was playing dirty politics, but said "thank god it (the crisis) has ended now".

The people would have been more happy had the Maoists not killed BMP ASI Lucas Tete, a catholic tribal from Jharkhand, he said.

"Uski kya galati thi (what was his fault?) that Maoists took the extreme step? They should not have killed him," he said.

The state government, Yadav said, had taken all precautions and steps to end the hostage crisis.

"The appeals from various quarters and the people of the country, besides that from families also facilitated their release," he said.
