Eco-friendly LED lamps at Mysore Palace
With a view of reducing consumption of electricity as well as the global warming, Mysore Palace Board has decided to replace 635 Sodium Vapour and other electric lamps with LED lamps at an estimated cost of ` 77 lakh.
This would conserve as many as 20,000 units of power per month as well as save ` 1.5 lakh which otherwise would have been spent on monthly electricity bill.
This was decided at the board meeting presided by Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, who is also executive officer of Mysore Palace Board, here on Monday. In fact, the palace has around 600 focus lights all over its premises that consume lot of electricity.
Those lights would be replaced with environment-friendly LED lights. The work is expected to be completed within one month. The board also decided to take steps to have Sound and Light programme in the palace premises before Dasara festival for the sake of tourists.
In a press release here, the DC said tender was finalised to install the electricity fence around the palace to beef up security.
The work has been entrusted to M/s Electric Corporation of India, a Government of India subsidiary company. In 2009-10, a total of 27.70 lakh tourists visited the palace. This number is expected to increase in the coming years. In order to provide basic facilities to tourists, toilets on international standard will be constructed at an estimated cost of ` 30 lakh.
Gupta said the board plans to set up a 3-D multimedia museum inside the palace premises to give full details of the Mysore palace as well as other tourist places in and around the city. The duration of the presentation will be 30 minutes. Tenders are called to install automated gates at all the entrances of the palace.
This would ensure entry of tourists without any delay, he added.
