‘Arogya Raksha Kavacha’ receives 2060 calls, attends 1934 cases

The State government’s much touted initiative in the health sector, ‘Arogya Raksha Kavacha’ (108) programme aimed for the betterment of health services in rural and urban areas has accepted 2060 calls till date, since February 16, 2009. Out of all the received calls, 1934 calls have been attended by 108 service and attempts were made to save the lives of the patients.
24x7 ambulance
Arogya Raksha Kavacha programme is an ambulance with medical treatment facilities in it. This 24X7 free service provider ambulances rush to the emergency spots whenever they receive distress calls with regard to severe health anomalies from people in rural and urban areas.
Public can dial 108 for the emergency medical, police or fire engine assistance and the calls from both landline as well as mobile phones can be made free of cost. The public can connect to Central Call Centre located at Bangalore by dialling 108.
The Centre immediately collects basic information of the person like name, location and overview of the situation. Within three minutes the Centre communicates information to the nearest Arogya Kavacha Centre available at help seeker’s place. In the case of accidents and fire incidents, information will be transferred to the centre concerned immediately. The Call Centre has the capacity to receive 10,000 calls (108) at a time, leaving no scope for delay.
As soon as a help seeker calls 108, the call is connected to a professional who collects information from the caller about the name, contact number, location of the incident, details about the occurrence, total number of persons injured, condition of the injured and other data.
Responding to emergency
Depending on the situation, required assistant is sent to the spot in the form of ambulance, police or fire engine. All the above mentioned questions are asked to give a clear picture of the spot to the ambulance personel.
It takes 20 minutes to provide emergency service to the needy. Soon after reaching the spot, ambulance carries the individual to the nearest hospital available as per the patient or the patient’s kin’s choice. Basic treatment to maintain patient’s body equilibrium is provided in the ambulance itself.
