‘Congress misusing Guv’s office’
Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Venkaiah Naidu has accused the Congress of ''misusing'' the Governor’s office for its ''nasty'' goals.
“The Congress, until now was misusing only the CBI and the Intelligence Bureau. But the Governor’s act of referring the Bill against cow slaughter for Presidential assent has showed that the Governor is behaving like a Congressman,” Naidu said here on Monday. He was speaking at the BJP dharna demanding immediate Presidential assent to the Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2010.
Naidu said the Governor had "no regard" to people's will. "It's absurd that a Bill passed by people's representatives in both Houses of the legislature has been held up by a nominated head of the State," he said. Observing that cow slaughter was banned in four other States, Naidu claimed that the legislation was in sync with the Directive Principles of Constitution.
The dharna was launched by offering rice and milk to a cow. Eshwarappa shot off a memorandum to Governor H R Bhardwaj stating that preserving cow breeds and preventing their slaughter was mandated by the Constitution.
