The book will also mark 150 years of the organisation next year, which undertakes archaeological researches and protection of the cultural heritage of the nation.

The collection titled 'The Marshall Albums Photography and Archaeology', brought out by private publishers with support from the ASI, will have rare photographs taken by Marshall and will also be placed for public access in more than 99 libraries of the organisation across the country.

The book will act as a reference material for archaeologists and avid researchers in this field as it is a collection of photographs, drawings and maps of Indian archaeology, an ASI official said.

Marshall, who died in 1958, was the longest serving Director General of the ASI from 1902 to 1928. He was also a British archaeologist of repute and his initial excavations led to unearthing of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa civilisations.

Marshall also carried out the excavations at Taxila. The book, priced around Rs 3,000, will be unveiled by the present ASI chief at the national museum tomorrow.
