The plantation workers took out a protest rally in the main streets of the town. They submitted a memorandum to the government through district administration on the occasion.

They said all the laws related to labourers should be implemented. Stringent action should be initiated against those who violate the labour laws. BPL card should be given to all the estate labourers. All the labourers should be given 25 kg rice at the rate of Rs 2 per kg. Sites should be distributed to those who get retired after working in estates.

The protesters said gram panchayats should submit a proposal to the government after identifying siteless labourers in every gram panchayat limits. Seats should be earmarked for the labourers’ children in all the hostels run by the government. The government should also provide loan without interest to the labourers children.

Lakhs of estate labourers do not get facilities which are due to them. The government is delaying the process of issuing a notification on minimum wages for the estate labourers, they alleged.
