On whether Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi would be invited to the wedding, Maneka said: “They (Sonia and Rahul) are members of the family.... They will be invited.”
She also urged reporters not to affix the word “Baba” (denoting that someone was still a child) before Varun. “Varun is no longer a child...he is 30,” she added.
Maneka lashed out at Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for her alleged failures to prevent train accidents. “The number of train mishaps has gone up sharply during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure,” she claimed. Maneka was particularly upset at the mowing down of seven elephants by a speeding train in West Bengal. “Mamata has been running the railway ministry from Kolkata,” she charged.
