Hosts Karnataka reigned supreme by claiming both the boys’ and girls’ titles in the 16th National Sub-junior Throwball Championship at the Hombe Gowda Stadium here on Wednesday.
In the boys’ event, it was a sweet revenge for last year’s runners-up Karnataka as they made short work of defending champions Andhra Pradesh in straight games 25-17, 25-21 to lift the title.
Karnataka eves ensured a grand double as the hosts posted an equally emphatic 25-20, 25-7 victory over Tamil Nadu in the girls’ title clash. Karnataka’s Sunil and Reshma were later adjudged the best players of the tournament in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka booked a berth in the final of the boys’ event after warding off a stiff challenge from Tamil Nadu 25-21, 27-26 to set up the title clash with Andhra Pradesh, who registered an equally tough 25-19, 27-25 win against Chattisgarh in the other semifinal.
On the other hand, the Karnataka eves entered the title round for the second year on the trot, easing past Vidarbha 25-14, 25-16, while Tamil Nadu made it to the title round in contrasting fashion after a battling 20-25, 25-9, 25-23 victory over defending champions Andhra Pradesh.
