The Committee was set up at a meeting in Bangalore, convened by Deputy Commissioner, Bangalore Urban, M A Sadiq. It will be headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic (East) Seemanth Kumar Singh with the Bangalore RTOs as its members.

“It will look into all matters before submitting a report to the Government,” said RTA, Secretary, Sayed Shafi Ahmed.

Various Autorickshaw Drivers’ Unions had sought a hike in minimum auto fare to Rs 14 and Rs 7 per km thereafter, as against the hike in LPG Rates.

 “We will stick to the seven-day ultimatum given to the Government. The State should resolve the issue immediately or else we will go on an indefinite strike from February 1,” said Adarsha Auto and Taxi Drivers’ Union, President M Manjunath. Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union Federation Secretary B S Narayana Murthy said, “Apart from the CITU, which wants the minimum fare to be fixed at Rs 20, all other unions want the fare of Rs 14 and Rs 7 per km. However, the Committee should consider our demand, as we form the majority.”

DCP Traffic (East) Seemanth Kumar Singh said that no time frame was fixed for the proposed hike in fare. But a decision would be taken soon, he assured.
