The success of newcomers Ganesh, Prem, Pooja Gandhi, Jennifer Kotwal and Rashmi, to name a few, has only made many youngsters knock the doors of namma Sandalwood, to realise their reel life dreams.
Trying to create a niche for herself this time, is Priyanka Bulgannawar.
Priyanka's debut movie `Marujanma' is slated to hit the silverscreen in the first week of February. ``The movie has rebirth as its theme. I play a double role. In the first half, I enact the role of a princess and in the second half that of a middle-class girl. The movie is about how true love triumphs,'' she says. When asked if the double role made for a tough beginning, she said that a crash course in acting and lessons in classical dance, that her character demanded in the film were good enough to pull it off. ``And you know our movie is much better than Om Shanti Om (Hindi flick starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, which also had the rebirth element in it).''
While NICE MD Ashok Khenny is playing Priyanka's father's role, Nag Kiran, who has starred in a Telugu movie is her love interest in the film. The movie is being produced by L R Productions and A R Babu is the director. ``It was more like working with a family and I was treated like a kid. We are all still in touch. This movie was a great experience,'' she said.
While she enjoyed the experience of cinema, she says that it was not something that she had planned to take up as a career. ``I was into modelling since I was four years old. I was featured in some magazines and have also modelled for popular jewellery brands. When people saw my pictures, they suggested that I try my luck in films.
Even though I got a few offers I refused them initially as I was too young and wanted to complete my basic education,'' tells Priyanka, a student of Jyothinivas College. My brother is a DJ. I always saw the kind of popularity he enjoyed. People recognised me as his sister, but I wanted to create an identity of my own and film was the medium I chose, she adds. Going by the offers she has, it looks like she has made the right choice. ``I have signed a Telugu movie. It is a thriller. There are a couple of offers from the Kannada industry too?''
On being asked, whom she would like to act with, pat came the reply. ``Definitely, with actors from Rajkumar's family. Working with Darshan and Upendra will also be an enriching experience?'' What about her ideal role? ? ``While I am open to experiments, I want to play the role of a psychopath, which will be really challenging,'' said she while signing off.
