At the meetings convened by the top police brass on Tuesday, the opinion emerged the police could have arrested four others had they planned well.
Two gigolos, Balaji (38) and Venkatesh (40), were arrested with the help of a journalist. Even as the two were detained inside a hotel room, four others - who were near the reception - smelt a rat and fled the scene.
Besides, the police had said a woman from ISRO Layout was behind the operation and that it was not a joint operation. Their release even given out the woman’s name. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Gopal B Hosur invited the journalist on Tuesday and apologised for the ‘mess-up’. It was also learnt the jurisdictional DCP did not authorise police to issue the release. It also did not have the signature of any officer, it was learnt.
The release even revealed the telephone number of the gigolo network. Hours after the racket was busted, the number was operational and one of the main accused continued to fix deals on it.
