The farmers of the region are up in arms against the acquisition of this land.
Airing their grievances before the DC, the farmers said that they were willing to give up their lives, but not their land.
In November 2006, the KIADB had issued a notification for the acquisition of this land, which is located beside the National Highway 7 on the outskirts of the city.
The farmers have been vehemently fighting the procedure since then. Last year, armed with bottles of poison, the farmers had barged into the deputy commissioner’s office, threatening to kill themselves. The deputy commissioner then scheduled a visit to inspect the land. “Two years ago, land here was priced at Rs 2 lakh per acre. Today, it is worth 25030 acres. In such a situation, it is unfair that the government is giving us compensation of just Rs 1 lakh per acre,” the farmers said.
They also alleged that the officials involved in the acquisition process, were hand-in-glove with some farmers, whose land they were not acquiring.
“We asked the officials concerned, but we are not being given a proper explanation. Why are they selling the land belonging to poor farmers?” they asked.
The farmers also suggested that the KIADB stop the process of acquisition, and acquire the 120-acre gomala land in Survey Number 226, beside National Highway 7.
DC Subodh Yadav, said that he would discuss the matter with the government and make whatever arrangements possible.
