A picture is said to be equivalent to a thousand words. And when scores of photographs join forces, what can be said is something that even tomes can't say, as was evident at Frozen Memories 2008, organised at Chitrakala Parishat in the City. The 120 photographs at the exhibition, put together by the Bangalore Photojournalists’ Association, gave a kaleidoscopic view of the City and its idiosyncrasies. Shot in the City over the past few years, they give glimpses of the essence that makes up Bangalore. G P Sampath Kumar's picture of a man feeding water to a snake was perhaps the best picture on display. That's how close a Bangalorean can get to nature, unmindful and oblivious to the backlashes.
A picture had three masked men holding hands. One donned the mask of S M Krishna, another B S Yeddyurappa and another H D Deve Gowda. Well, the photo just left things at that and let the viewer draw his or her own conclusion. Another of a horse kicking a man in the butt was real kickass stuff sending one and all into peals of laughter. A photograph where a Pied Piper played his best tunes to the maidens walking past him. It’s another matter that the maidens were policewomen and they did not arrest the boy for eve-teasing!
Another picture shot at the EWS Quarters of Koramangala showed a half clad child sitting and watching his house being pulled down.
Frozen Memories 2008 is a telling reminder that news photographs don't merely have a day's life span but can continue to gnaw at our conscience for long. The exhibition is on till today.
