Can films be a medium of torture? After watching Zindagi one is bound to agree. Zindagi, a Hindi word for life, is an attempt to showcase the confused mind of a passionate lover but ends up a mere imitation.
Seenu (Rajiv), an illiterate believes life is meant for enjoyment. Circumstances force him to move to the city where he meets Doctor Sharmi (Priyanka), an over-zealous social reformer. Strangely, they are connected by their thoughts on the social reformation. So strong and fast is the connection that what ever Sharmi thinks of doing, Seenu would have already done it! The sudden metamorphosis in his nature is baffling.
Further he has fallen in love with her and is unaware of it. But Sham (Kishore) a police officer and Sharmi’s fiance has an old score to settle with Seenu. As expected, a rat race ensues between the two to oust each other from Sharmi’s life and ends with one dead. What makes it crass is the justification of the death.
The movie to say the least has a morbid story coupled with shoddy screenplay and direction. A major flaw in story is the chanting of the sanskrit mantras by an illiterate Seenu. Further Seenu’s character is undefined and paradoxical and Rajiv’s crass acting make’s it awkward to view. But Priyanka and Kishore have acted well and give much needed respite. Though there are some comedy scenes they don’t support the movie. Also, the film fails in convincing the turns and twists which make it long and boring. Crisp editing could have salvaged the movie to an extent. Songs fail to appeal. Waste of time, really.
