M P Shankar laid to rest

Kannada film actor-producer M P Shankar, who passed away here on Thursday, was laid to rest amidst State honours on Friday...


Meanwhile, fans and Kannada activists decried the absence of the Chief Minister and the District In-Charge Minister.

Earlier, the mortal remains of the actor were offered a 21-gun salute, as a mark of respect. The flower-bedecked vehicle bearing the body was taken out on a procession.

Deputy Commissioner P Manivannan, Police Commissioner Dr S Parashivamurthy, DCP V S D’Souza, film producers Sa Ra Govindu and N Kumar, former Union Minister V Sreenivas Prasad and other officials paid their respects.

The body was taken out in a procession from the actor’s K D Road residence in Vijayanagar to Veerashaiva Burial Grounds in Vidyaranyapuram. The body was taken to Dalwayi School Road, near the house, in which the actor was born, is located.

A large number of people, who had gathered along the route, had a glimpse of the body and offered their respects. Earlier, Mayor Ayub Khan, former minister M Shivanna and others  offered their last respects to the departed artiste.
