Farmers seek action against spurious pesticides
DH News Service, Chikkaballapur:
Strict action should be initiated against those engaged in the preparation of spurious insecticides and pesticides. The permits issued to traders, who sell these should be cancelled, said farmers leader Yaluvahalli N Ramesh.

These were among the various demands putforth by the farmers in the city under the leadership of Ramesh.  The protesters staged a rasta roko on NH 7 and gheraoed the Bescom office. Also, they took out a protest rally in all the prominent roads in the city and raised slogans against the State government and the sellers of spurious insecticides and pesticides.

There has been an increased incidence of the preparation of fake pesticides and insecticides in the city, recently.  Two years ago the farmers had caught those selling spurious pesticides and had handed them over to the police.
However, whether the accused were punished or not still remains unknown, said Yaluvahalli Ramesh.
The studies of the students is being affected due to erratic power cut during night times. Thus, power should be supplied adequately between 6pm and 10 pm, the farmers urged.

Moreover, the farmers should be provided 2 sacks of pesticides per acre instead of one sack, which is given to them at present. Also, one crore should be provided as compensation for an acre of agricultural land, acquired for the NH project.

The government should provide Rs 5 as support price for tomatoes, the farmers demanded.
