Training extensively to finetune their skills ahead of Beijing Olympics, ace shuttler Saina Nehwal and archer Mangal Singh expressed confidence of putting up a good performance in the mega event.
"I am playing quite well. I have been training extensively for the past three weeks. I am confident that I play well," Saina said on the sidelines of a function where the Beijing-bound players from Andhra Pradesh were felicitated by the AP Olympic Association.
Her coach and mentor Pullela Gopichand, the former All England Champion, also hoped Saina, currently ranked 16, will do well in the Olympics.
Gopichand said competition will come from the top 10-12 players and that they will be taking one match at a time.
Sounding pretty confident about his chances, Mangal Singh, the archer from Jharkhand now playing for Andhra Pradesh, said he is hoping for a medal in the Olympics.
"I think I have a good chance. I stood first in the World Cup in Turkey. I underwent training in Korea. I participated in different tournaments and secured top three positions. I am feeling confident," the 24-year-old player said.
He said he has rectified his shortcomings to put up a good show in the event. Singh is lone male archer to represent India at the Olympics.
Former Olympian Limba Ram has also been guiding him in his quest of a credible show.
V Pranitha, a young archer, is another player from Andhra Pradesh presenting her challenge at the Olympics.
She stood second in the sub-junior world championship in 2006 and also in the Junior Asian championship.
Pranitha said she has been making good score in the practice sessions and hoped to do well in the Olympics.
Her coach at the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur described Pranitha as a hard working girl who has been doing very well in recent times.
S Geetha, who will be competing in the 4x400 metres relay event, said she would make all efforts to put up a good performance.
Saina Nehwal, Mangal Singh, S Geetha and V Pranitha, were felicitated earlier by AP Olympic Association president L Rajagopal and other top officials.
The four players and also Sania Mirza, Gagan Narang and J J Shobha, who could not attend the function, were handed over cheques for Rs 50,000.
