What price English education?
Knowledge of English may lead to success today, but what if it comes at the cost of our own languages? Sankara Rajanala writes on the perils of an English only approach.
Medium of Instruction
Unaided private schools having more than 3 lakh students enrolled were relieved from the clutches of the Governments Medium of Instruction policy which made it mandatory on all private schools to have Kannada as the medium of instruction in elementary classes.
The question of motivation
Learning difficulties, developmental delay, illness and stress may all lead to a lack of motivation. It is left to parents and teachers to find ways to motivate children to learn.
PSBT fellowships for docu-film-makers
In an effort to empower aspiring Indian film-makers, encourage production of documentary films and support excellence in independent film-making, Public Service Broadcasting Trust, has announced up to 10 Film Fellowships for 2008-2009 entitled PSBT Documentary Film Fellowships.

A miscellany
Response to the new format of EFY has been overwhelming. The invitation to Readers to write giving their views, comments and suggestions has resulted in a flood of mail (mostly electronic) difficult to handle. From simple queries like: What figure of speech is this? (some line of verse) to invitations (to me) to join in a philosophical debate on Paradoxes and Antimonies the spectrum is amazing. It is a pleasure to see how many are interested in reading the column and responding to it. That the column had a large readership was always known; that it had such a large and enthusiastic readership is a new, pleasant discovery.
