Employee engagement latest corporate mantra
By Surajit Banerjee
Employee engagement is now becoming the latest corporate mantra since at the end of the day, having a fully engaged employee creates a difference, and those employees stay longer and contribute in a more meaningful way.

SpiceJet has introduced various employee engagement initiatives for employees for a healthy and balanced environment at work place.

The airline believes that since its employees are the biggest asset, it is important to motivate them and create ‘Fun at workplace’ through various aspects like interdepartmental quizzing, theme based dress codes and rewards around that and also creating competition around workplace, theme creation around festivals and various national events. It is important to establish contact with employees, and employee engagement helps in building a truly great relationship with the workforce and in ensuring that the bond lasts. We believe in creating a spicy culture by adopting initiatives, which is in sync with the values of the brand i.e., youthful and vibrant, efficient, transparent, dynamic, approachable and caring.

It is employees who are the driving force of any organisation; employees are the most valued assets and SpiceJet believes in investing in their individual growth. Therefore the company has collaborated with the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies to provide full-time MBA and BBA programmes in aviation management to its employees.

This includes free facilities like travel and stay while employees attend fully sponsored classes at Gurgaon campus. This is the second major step towards employee empowerment announced by the airline, the first being ESOP offerings to all its employees. Since organisations are making sports as an integral part of their employee engagement regime, the airline believes in the same philosophy and have constantly encouraged its employees to participate in corporate cricket tournaments that are held every year in Gurgaon and the NCR region.

Sports have an universal appeal and help employees bond in a way, which would otherwise not be possible. This exercise will help employees develop physical and interpersonal skills and also inculcate team spirit among them.
In order to maintain vibrancy and keep the spirit alive, the company has partnered with Seventymm to bring all SpiceJetters under one single roof with the exclusive screening of a movie blockbuster. This initiative is an attempt to lend some fun and excitement in their already existing busy schedule at work. SpiceJet had organised a special anniversary bash for its employees on the eve of its 3rd anniversary to showcase the budding talents of SpiceJetters on a common platform.

Therefore it is important for an organisation to be dynamic and vibrant because such a work environment helps create a feel-good factor within the organisation and a positive and cohesive attitude amongst the employees.
It also acts as a great booster of employee morale, a stress buster, a change in the monotonous work schedule. Such initiatives provide a platform to understand, imbibe and integrate with the organisation and the organizational culture and also, binding the employees to the core values and ethics of the organisation.
