Hundreds of beneficiaries from Megunda hobli of Koppa taluk thronged at the venue from early morning and waited till 10 am. And when the officials asked them to return without giving cards as they (the officials) did not had documents ready with them, the villagers got enraged.
Gram Panchayat former president D B Rajendra alleged that the officials are doing injustice to the hundreds of beneficiaries who have come from far away places. “Even though ration cards are to be distributed to the people from Megunda hobli, officials have brought documents of Hariharapura and Koppa hoblis, which is nothing but sheer carelessness. Tahasildar Narasimharaju should visit the spot immediately and take suitable steps, he urged.
Megunda hobli JD(S) president Jaladurga Praveen Kumar said people from areas like Meguru, Kallugudde, Dayamballi, Jayapura, Jaladurga, Kulur, Makkikoppa, Heggadde, Alageshwara and Hiregadde have been subjected to injustice. Rs 15 and Rs 45 have been received for temporary cards but there are gross distortions in printing gender, village and names. Officials are solely responsible for the mistakes in survey and the computer, he said.
A verbal war took place between the villagers and officials for some time.
Owing to the pressure, the officials brought the necessary documents from the taluk office and distributed ration cards. Applications were received from the villagers for necessary corrections.
Koppa taluk Food Inspector Prakash, Jayapura Revenue Inspector Mumtaz Mohammed assisted the process.
