Drunken husband creates scene in hospital
Tribal woman discharged, re-admitted
DH News Service, Madikeri:
In a bizzare incident took place at the district hospital here on Tuesday, an intoxicated husband not only disturbed the hospital staff and public, but got his wife- a puerperal woman- discharged forcibly and stepped into police station.

However, with the timely intervention of the elected representatives the tribal woman, who had just gave birth to a child, was again admitted to the same hospital. The woman subjected to the entire drama is one Lalitha, a resident of Channangi tribal colony near Palibetta. With the efforts of BJP district secretary Shanteyanda Ravi Kushalappa, ZP former vice president B C Neelamma and member Sushila Lokaiah, she was once again admitted to the hospital later.

How it happened

Lalitha had given birth to a male baby in the district hospital at 8.46 am on Monday. She was in the hospital in the night also. Meanwhile accompanied by relatives, an intoxicant Shivappa, her husband reportedly entered the hospital and disturbed the patients and their relatives. Following this, the nurses complained to the police over telephone.

On the next day, on Tuesday, Shivappa pressed the hospital staff to discharge his wife at 3.30 pm and she was discharged. However, as soon as coming out of the hospital, Shivappa took Lalitha directly to the police station and complained that the hospital people have sent his wife out.

Learning about the incident, BJP district general secretary Shanteyanda Ravi Kushalappa rushed to the police station. Believing Shivappa’s words, Mr Kushalappa, B C Nellamma and Sushila Lokaiah and others took an auto and went to the hospital. Only then the actual colour of the incident was revealed.

The public gathered in the hospital made a list of allegations against Shivappa and his relatives for the scene they had created there last night.

In the meantime, Dr Somashekhar and district surgeon Dr Ajith Kumar arrived on the spot and clarified that there is no fault on the side of the nurses and staff in discharging Lalitha. Later, she was re-admitted.
