Forest department Mangalore Circle, Forest department Udupi zone, Kundapur Division of Forest department and Kalyanpur Gram Panchayath jointly organised an afforestation programme ‘Namma Vana’ here at Neijar village Kalyanpur on Monday.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat said deforestation has proved to be the most dangerous debacle to the ecological system. One should plant atleast 10 saplings, if one tree is felled.
Government should permit any developmental projects like Nagarjuna to cut the trees only with certain conditions of the replacements. It was inevitable for the Government to give its consent to cut some trees for widening the roads as part of Udupi beautification project. But those trees will be replaced by many more trees, he assured. Kundapur DCF Palayya, Standing Committee Chairman Janardhan Thonse, Senior Forest Officials Prakash Karlekar, Yogeshwar and others were present.
