High Court summons DC
Bangalore, dhns: The Karnataka High Court has summoned DC Gowri Shankar, MLA, Madhugiri in connection with the irregularities during the legislative assembly elections-2008 that saw the Bharatiya Janata Party form the government.
Hearing a petition by K N Rajanna, the runner up candidate, who has moved High Court alleging corrupt practices during the elections, Justice N Kumar summoned the respondent.
The petitioner said that Gowri Shankar adopted corrupt practices during the election by gifting a sum of Rs 10 lakh as cheque to Krishna Reddy, President Reddy Sangha, Madhugiri along with a borewell worth Rs 50,000 to ensure the Reddy community votes.
He also submitted that he had gifted money to people of two villagers and had organised a feast at Mariamma temple for 600 people on April 24, 2008.
Shankar had defeated Rajanna by a margin of 563 votes.
He had secured 51, 941 votes, while the latter secured 51,408 votes.
