Sri Chamundeshwari Karakushala Yuvakara Vedike, Mandi Mohalla here has roped in numerous cooks and assistants to prepare around 30,000 holiges to be distributed for the devotees visiting Chamundi Hills on July 24 on account of Vardanthi Mahotsava of Goddess Chamundeshwari.
Holiges are being prepared for the past five days commencing from July 17 at a marriage hall in Rajendra Nagar in the City.
As many as 20 cooks are preparing and 30 persons are packing the sweet from dawn to dusk to meet the set target on or before Wednesday.
Nagendra of the Samithi told Deccan Herald “The Samithi of 10 like-minded youths who are all artisans decided to offer ‘prasada’ on every Vardanthi Mahotsava commencing from 2000. The funds were pooled in by only friends in the initial years, before seeking funds from philanthropists in the later years.”
One thousand laddus were distributed on the first year (2000) which was increased to 2000 in the following year. In 2003, 1,500 burfies were distributed and from 2004 holige is being distributed. It all started with the distribution of 2,000 holiges, which saw a gradually rise of 5,000 in 2005, same in 2006 and 15,000 in 2007. It wants to distribute 1 lakh holiges in the coming year.
The other youths behind the event are Nithin, Rajesh, Chandru, Shivakumar, Madhusudhan, Kumaraswamy, Nagesh and Jaykumar.
