Bangalore, dhns: The State Government has constituted a committee headed by a retired Judge of Karnataka High Court Justice Ramakrishna for recommending names for filling two posts of members of the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC).
The Committee consists of the Chairman of Central Electricity Authority and the Chief Secretary to the State Government. The two posts of members have fallen vacant following retirement of H S Subramanyam (Member-II) and S D Ukkali (Member-I) in March and July, 2008 respectively.
Each member will have a term of office of five years with the retirement age being 65 years. The Committee has to recommend two names for each post and the government will select one of the two for the posts.
As per rules the posts of members will have to be filled within a month of retirement of each member. Though Subramanyam retired in March itself, his post has been vacant till date as the Governor wanted the post to be filled by a popular government.
Backward classes meet
Bangalore, dhns: The Chairman of National Commission for Backward Classes Ratnavel Pandian on Tuesday hoped that the Union Cabinet would take a decision on the report regarding the creamy layer in respect of appointments to the civil services submitted by the Commission.
Pandian chaired the hearing held at the office of State Commission for Backward Classes.
Hearing petitions from the representatives of such communities as Dasari, Dasaru, Ghisade, Gurkha, Jangala, Kodagu Kapala, Kumri Marati, Malaya, Pangual and Raya Rawath etc.
While representatives of most of these communities sought their inclusion in the Central list,representatives of some communities such as Dasari sought that they be deleted from the backward classes list and included in the ST list.
The Commission is scheduled to receive representations from various sub-sects of Lingayat and Vokkaliga communities in Central list on Wednesday.
Research works published
Bangalore, dhns: As many as 37 research works which were awarded doctoral degree by various universities have been published by Kannada Sahitya Parishat. The books were released in a function organised in Bangalore on Tuesday.
During the tenure of Prof Chandrashekhar Patil as president, the Parishat initiated the project to publish PhD thesis which were extraordinary. A panel headed by Prof Patil selected thesis for publication.
Prof Patil speaking at the function said that the Parishat for the first time in its history took the decision to publish PhD works. As many as 80 research works have been selected for publication. The Parishat should continue the tradition of publishing research works in future too. The books released cost Rs 100 each. They are available at Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
Kannada Development Authority chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said that the authority will felicitate judges who pronounce verdict in Kannada.
The authority will provide Rs 1,000 each as scholarship to students studying Kannada MA in universities outside
Karnataka.
