Sakaleshpur MLA H K Kumaraswamy raising the issue during the question hour in the Legislative Assembly said that a few persons had died and many people have suffered permanent injuries due to elephants’ attack. Besides, farmers suffered crop loss.

Chikmagalur MLA C T Ravi suggested that an elephant park be set up to prevent elephants from straying into human habitat.

Public Works Department Minister C M Udasi, answering the question on behalf of the Chief Minister, said that the government has been taking measures to prevent the elephants from entering the villages around the forests.

Clear dues

The minister informed that the government has not released compensation of Rs 40.10 lakh to victims of elephant attack in 2,202 cases. The members cutting across party affiliations, demanded immediate release of the compensation.
