RV Engineering College recently unveiled a plug-in hybrid car project called “Chimera” at a function at the RV Engineering College campus. The project involved integration of an internal combustion engine for biodiesel in an electric car.
The student team of 11 members from final year BE across different streams such as Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial and Computer Science – Karthik Bhaskaran, Arun Nedungadi, Anil Balldwa, Abhinav Ghosh, Sunil Choudary, Siddhartha Saraogi, GAR Mukesh, Punit Muralidhar, Vinayak K, Mohammed Billal and Sridhar K; designed the hybrid system with assistance from REVA Electric Car Company, Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited and National Instruments.
The car will run on electric power supplied by batteries, and is supplemented by a diesel engine, that runs on bio-diesel. The car is controlled and automated by an indigenously developed hybrid controller and the entire functioning of the car is automated except for the acceleration and braking.
