BJP is not a benchmark of patriotism: Sonia
DH News Service, Tumkur:
"Congress party need not have to learn lessons in patriotism from the BJP. The party is well known for its sacrifice. It has sacrificed Indira Gandhi and has lost Rajiv Gandhi for the nation and hence we need not have to be taught patriotism," said All India Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

She was addressing the election campaign meet in the city on Wednesday at the Tumkur Government College playground.

Who safely led terrorists to Kandahar? Which party was in power in the Centre when the terrorists attacked the Parliament, she questioned.

Thus, we don’t require any certification of patriotism from the BJP, she added.

Providing 33 per cent reservation to the women in the parliament was Rajiv Gandhi’s dream. Thus, the tabling of the bill in the house on Tuesday has brought immense joy to me, observed Sonia Gandhi.

“ For better administration of the Karnataka state vote Congress to power. Once voted to power we will contribute to the comprehensive development of the State. We had earlier made alliance with the JD(S).

However, they joined hands with the communal party and did not adhere to the promise. The people in order to over come such a situation should vote Congress to power,” urged Sonia Gandhi.

Moreover, with the coalition government in power the State’s development has been dealt a severe blow, she added.

She lauded the Union budget and the State manifesto.

Also, present on the occasion were Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Prithviraj Chavan, S M Krishna, Siddaramaiah and others.  Dr B A Sanadi translated Sonia’s speech into Kannada.
