Music all the way
Under the stars of the summer night sky, with steaming hot coffee, samosas and hot dogs, the William Joseph International Academy for Performing Arts, celebrated its fifth anniversary at the St John’s Amphi-Theatre recently. The student- teacher recital, was attended by a packed audience of music teachers, students, musicians and friends. The performance started with the resounding voice of Dr Ashley Williams singing the Lord’s Prayer. This was the beginning of what was in store to come. The William Joseph International Academy for Performing Arts, teaches all forms of western music.
Students from as young as four years to their parents and grandparents went on stage one by one performing various instruments such as the piano, classical guitar, clarinet, drums, violin and double bass. A big hit of the evening was the junior children’s choir performing, ‘There's a Hole in the Bucket’ and what they thought the adults always do ‘Blah, Blah, Blah’. The children also enacted these songs. The guitar ensemble performed the old-time favourite ‘Jamaican Farewell’.
The highlight of the evening was the Academy’s Student Chamber Orchestra, which performed on stage for the first time, four classical numbers including the old English song, ‘Drink to Me Only’.
Also in the evening’s performance was a moving video presentation, made by young teenagers that sent a message to make the world a better place to live in. This presentation also highlighted the outreach activities of the William Joseph Music Foundation, whose work in the slums and orphanages has been greatly appreciated.
Mother’s Day being round the corner, beautiful roses were given to all mothers by their children while Dr Ashley Williams sang a very old pop song ‘Mother of Mine’, he performed this song more than 30 years ago.
The Academy caters to the performance, production and education of music, dance, and theatre. One can get in touch with the William Joseph International Academy at 9844119956 -9845174324.
